I first met Anthony in 1993. His friendly, easy going manner was engaging, and thus began our long acquaintance and friendship. Over the years we shared many walks, usually starting on one of our adjacent street corners and ending in a pub. I shall miss the late afternoon phone call asking if I fancied a stroll up the road. Often arriving a few minutes late, invariably well turned-out, Anthony was tremendous value, sharing his love for life: a source of incredible knowledge and information often woven into fascinating stories which were told with great humour. Seldom judgemental, wryly optimistic, Anthony had a quietly imposing presence. He was a constant, interested and supportive friend. Throughout his ultimate year Anthony was inspirational; facing his illness with dignity and courage to the end. He will be hugely missed.
